    In 2010, KDA was awarded the contract by The Regional Municipality of York to design its first-ever coordinated street furniture program.

    As The Regional Municipality of York consists of nine municipalities, KDA designed a sophisticated program that would enhance the individual characteristics of each municipality, while complementing the brands of both the existing York Regional Transit System and VIVA, York’s bus rapid transit system.

    The program included the creative design of Transit Shelters, Benches, Waste/Recycling Receptacles, Newspaper Box Organizers, Multi-Publication Structures, Schedule Display Cases, Community Information Kiosks and Bus Schedule Signs.

    KDA was also retained to design coordinated Bike Shelter and Bike Lockers as part of an emerging bike ridership program.

    York Region is one of the fastest growing areas in Canada and continues to add between 15,000 to 20,000 jobs each year to a residential population of 1 million. With urban intensification street furniture has become a strong component of streetscape planning and beautification York Region.

    The program is slated for manufacture and installation in 2011.
