Exterior and Interior Wayfinding Master Plan Strategy

Trent Univerity
Peterborough, ON
Client: Trent University

  • Trent University

KDA was retained by Trent to develop a coordinated wayfinding master plan for its three-campus university complex. Located along the Otonabee River in Peterborough, Ontario, Trent University is 5.6 sq miles, over half of which is part of Trent's Nature Areas, an ecologically diverse wildlife preserve.

KDA’s objective was to design a program that would sensitively integrate with the University’s natural landscape and original campus architecture by world-renowned Canadian architects Ron Thom. As a result, the signage system utilizes free-standing, unobstructed, highly identifiable sign types for effective wayfinding both day and night.

Following the success of the program, KDA created a complete Standards and Guidelines manual that is still being referenced and used by facility management.
