Burton Kramer is a painter of lyrical,
geometric abstraction. His paintings project
his fascination with the emotional, communicative powers of colour and with
(what Josef Albers referred to) as the perceptual differences between physical
fact and optical effect'.

Kramer had contact, while living in Zurich, with a number of important Swiss modernist
'concrete' painters. Among them were Camille Graeser, Richard Lohse, Johannes Itten, Max Bill, Karl Gerstner and Gottfried Honegger.

He has lived and worked in New York, Chicago, London (England), Zurich, Basle and Toronto, traveled in much of Western Europe, the Far East, Turkey and Mexico, exhibited his paintings in Canada, France, Mexico, Austria, Columbia and the USA.

He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA), Holds an Honorary Doctorate from Ontario College of Art & Design, is recipient of ‘The Order of Ontario’, Toronto Arts 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in 1999, a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).
